8/17/07 - Sent to D5960 and club leadership 07-08, please share with your members and the Family of Rotary from Bill Brueck, Webmaster:

As you know, District Technology Chair Patti Patefield had surgery Wednesday to remove a brain tumor.  I just spoke with Patti's husband Ed.

He reports that the surgery and recovery are right on schedule.  Patti was awake and knew what was going on already yesterday afternoon, so I guess she got the morning slot with the surgeon.

However, early reports on the tumor itself are that it was not benign. Ed cautioned that the limited sample that was analyzed at the time of surgery provides this preliminary diagnosis.  They will know more about what it is and the treatment regimen today and in subsequent days.  But he did say they were dealing with a Stage 4 astrocytoma and that some combination of radiation and chemo were in the picture now.

At the moment the concerns are to manage the inevitable swelling and all the extra room that's in there from the removal of the 2.5 inch diameter mass.  He reports that this is going well and she may be moved from Neuro ICU to the stepdown unit today, pending availability of a bed.

Ed's voice was strong and upbeat.  He emphasized several times that they are going into this with a positive attitude and will fight whatever is ahead aggressively.

I asked how Seth (age 11) was doing, and Ed reported that he's very much aware of what's going on, is asking a lot of good and pointed questions; they're very much keeping him in the loop.

Ed did mention that he had sent out a blast e-mail about 11:00 last night about all this, but I'm not finding it.  If any of you got such a communication, please forward it to me or to Jingle.  He laughed that Patti takes care of all the tech in their household and he was sure missing that.  I told him 5960 was the same way!

For those wishing to send greetings:

Flowers don't work yet while she's in ICU.

Let's keep this family in our prayers.  I'll let you know more as I have news.

11/27/06 - District Governor Dianne Nesvig Update

To Club and District leadership:

I am very sad to report that Dianne's medical problems continue. She had a heart attack on Thanksgiving Day and spent two nights in the hospital in Mankato. She is at home and doing fine, but must have some more tests at Mayo and possible procedure depending on outcome.

Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She is on email and here is her home address. She will be moving to a new home in North Mankato by Christmas, so she has her hands full! Perhaps she needs a Rotary moving crew!

ROCHESTER ROTARY RISERS CONFER PAUL HARRIS FELLOW TO BRUCE BULLER Bruce Buller, Assistant Governor extraordinaire and friend of the Risers' Rotary Club, was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow commemoration by President Gail Baker at their February 7 club meeting. Bruce has been a staunch supporter of the Risers and has seen them through some turbulent as well as some terrific times in recent years. Bruce's leadership was instrumental in seeing the Risers through recent membership challenges facing the club. Bruce's frequent presence at club and board meetings is greatly appreciated and deserving of the Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Congratulations, Bruce!

10/27/05:  A recent request from Leonor from Soldona Rotary (
District 5010 in Alaska):

Our fellow Rotarian, Mike Sweeney will be at the Mayo Clinic for some tests Wednesday November 2, 2005 for an unknown amount of time.  Would it be possible for some Rochester Rotarians to visit him as Family of Rotary?  Mike is Soldotna Alaska past president, and has had a perfect attendance record since the inception of our club.  Any assistance during this difficult time for him and his wife Gloria will be greatly appreciated.  His patient number at the Mayo is MC 93-144-710 and his physician is Dr. Bower, neurologist.
Should you have any questions please e-mail me, Leonor Fraser, at Leonor@alaska.net - a fellow Rotarian.

Please keep Mike in your prayers as this next week approaches.
