Rotary's main objective is service - in the community, in the workplace, and around the globe. The 1.2 million Rotarians who make up more than 34,000 Rotary clubs in nearly every country in the world share a dedication to the ideal of Service Above Self.

Rotary clubs are open to people of all cultures and ethnicities and are not affiliated with any political or religious organizations.

Dean and Julie are Rochester natives.

Julie taught Kindergarten for 35 years at number of Rochester Elementary schools, the last being at Sunset Terrace, and has been retired now for 8 years. She enjoys gardening, volunteering at her church and Samaritan Bethany, socializing, running, reading, cooking and tandem biking with Dean.

Dean was the executive director of the YMCA for 34 years; then was at the Rochester Senior Center for an ‘encore career’ for 7 years; and now is at Samaritan Bethany where he was recruited to lead their Foundation and Development program (fundraising!). He enjoys road biking, running a little bit, Cross-Country and Downhill Skiing, reading and tandem biking with Julie.

Julie and Dean have two grown sons and two grandchildren, all living in Salt Lake City.

In addition to talking about their trip to Greece and Turkey, they will tell you how they got in to tandem bike riding and the specific roles each plays while on the bike.
